Holly Laginess
Ceramicist / Mixed Media

This beautiful handmade tassel is one-of-a-kind piece by artist Holly Laginess

Holly Laginess attended The University of Minnesota. There Holly pursued a degree in Studio Arts with a concentration in ceramics. Holly went to the University for 2 years, but ended up graduating from a small school in Minnesota with a Culinary Arts Degree. She was a chef for several years but all the while Holly longed to use her education in studio arts. Holly began making jewelry and selling it. Before Holly new it, she had her work in 15 stores across the Midwest and “By Golly By Holly” was created.

Holly loved making jewelry and adorning people with fine metals and gems, but the market was becoming saturated with jewelers, and she knew that she needed to begin to incorporate new items into her line or she was going to have to find herself a full time job! So she began to make lamps. Holly went out in search of vintage lamps that she could take apart and use. This is her favorite part of the process, the thrill of the hunt! She builds her lamps from the base up, from the parts of several different lamps to make a floor lamp, a table lamp or chandelier. Holly adds copper pipe, lamp work glass prisms and sometimes beautiful artist blown glass. In her new line she has recently reverted back to her past love, ceramics. Holly has been hand building ceramic components for her lamps and has expanded her line with dessert plates, tassels, boxes, 3-D Wall Tiles and garden art. Each ceramic piece she builds by her self, glazes it by hand and fires it. Hand building the vessels, glazing, drying and firing can take up to 3 weeks. After the parts are constructed Holly works towards their final assembly building them into functional art.

Holly has no staff, besides her husband, who calls himself the pack mule… She builds everything from scratch, they are all original, one of kind, creations.
